Don't talk- create - art journal cover

'

I never finished any art journal in my life- but I did a lot of covers from this very cheap and great Canson mini albums.
So this is another new cover  and I hope to begin with the inner pages some day .
I did some  white  ink stamping, heat embossing, inking resist technique, stamping all over, collaging, lace pleating and working on this Tando creative floral corner chipboard..
Anyway it can't be " working"- it was mostly trying to do something with an unknown result.
Fists I  added some white gesso, than inked with a distress ink and it was a great  brownish mute color..
But then I decided to add some 3d  glue over it and the mute color became the blazing red..
Who need this red on this vintage cover? So I added some beads as I thought it will help to deminish this red.. No chance.. I tryed to use some alcohol inks- brown and green as this became the hard  epoxy surface.. Nothing.. Still bright red.. So I  painted it with white paint dry  brush here and there..Still shining red with some white.
As a last step- before it goes to the trash- I added some distress stickles- and here it is.. Not so red anymore, mixed media vintage  look.. A bit of a mess- but doesn't mixed media is all about a mess?
As a final touch I added  some fibers, ribbons, Tim Holtz key, pin, clock and a charm and made a title with 3 fonts and I am really happy with a result.
So don't afraid to do some crazy chipboard covering- maximum it will  go to the trash (O, no,
it took me too long to get my new chips from UK.. So I do my best to " save" them all... )
And a punch line: don't afraid to try.. In mixed media area you can  experiment as much as you want and still get some unique  look..

Gold twinchies.......

I don't get a chance to take part in too many swaps on Bubbly Funk but in September I made myself time to join in and make some twinchies....the theme was Autumn.

Of course I had to use the wavy Tando ones that we do so I settled down and made these.  They have been coloured with DI and as they are white lined I had no prep to do at all.  They've also been stamped and I used a tiny splodge of stickles on each one.  Some autumnal leaves were added and I finished off with a bit of string and the letters GOLD.

Black and Orange....

With Halloween just round the corner black and orange are certainly a popular colour choice right now.

Zoe has done this amazing artboard using our cogs and flourish, how clever was the idea of using the flourish for steam....fantastic.

You can find lots of details about this on Zoe's blog in THIS post but do check out the rest of her blog especially the spooky mask....it's brilliant.

8 days of food with TANDO kitchen set

I had a very odd mission on my SNR magazine DT- to do a page with a Holiday recipe.
Why was it odd? Because I am  not a cook- never ever did anything but a soup or eggs
(DH is a great one- so let it stay  this way).
But mission  must be done- and  this recipe page was born- using 4 of Kitchen set chipboards-
I used a spoon- fork- knife and chefs hat.. The first 3 were glittered with Ranger red glitter
(I just love red kitchen staff) and the metal part was covered with silver Ranger pearl paint.
The hat was covered with white enamel from Ranger and than I just added some twill white ribbon around it.
The recipe on the page is a real one-  you can use it, not mine- but checked and taken from the web recipe forum and it's for our traditional Hannukkah potato dish  named Latkes.
So try it and enjoy!!

At 21- my new lo

My new page was a kind of self  plagiate:I did the same journaling about a year ago and I just loved it so much that I decided to do a very new page with  old photo of my twins at 21, using the same journaling.
So it's all Prima- with this  great Tando creative corner chipboard (I did 2 other works with this one, but it's so perfect for the 12*12'' corner that I just had to use it again), with distress inking, clear powder embossing and some crystals all over it.
The small white drops were not intended to be there- some white powder was probably left in my embossing box- but  it was just OK for this page- muted colors and shabby vintage look-  not a perfect one..
This corner chipboard is my favorite- I can use it on  every one of my vintage or shabby scrapbooking page. Try it!! Just the final touch  we all nead for  an empty page corner...

Christmas Mini Book Drinks Menu

I've been having a play with the new Mini Book and have made a Drinks Menu that can be either left flat or opened up as a centre-piece on a table.

I've covered it with various My Mind's  Eye Christmas papers, you can get 2 sides covered from one sheet of 12 x 12" paper,  and edged it with an ink pad. Then I've punched holes on the ends with a Crop-o-Dile and tied ribbon through them.

I've printed out various Christmassy Drinks I found on ~{Whattodrink.com}~ and stuck them in place.

I've finished it off  by punching holes into the spine and tying a thick piece of ribbon just tight enough so it will stand up on it's own or lie flat. Then used the Season's Greetings Chipboard for the front. This has been sprayed with Cosmic Shimmer, doodled with a very fine pen and finished with Glossy Accents.

CHRISTMAS MINI BOOK

Hello, its Karen here & I have been festive again hehe!  This time with the wonderful Christmas Tree book from the Christmas 2010 collection!

This is such a fun book to play with.  You can use for scrapping your Christmasy pics but I have used it to make a free standing centre piece, decoration, whatever you want to call it!!!!  In its naked form its just over 24cm high, a lovely size & really sturdy so it will take anything you want to throw at it. It looked like this...

I have had so much fun with this one though and have based each page on a quote.  It made me hunt through my Christmasy stash to find bits & pieces to put in it!  Have you spotted the lovely Tando reindeer???

Here are the other pages...

Lots of glitter, chippie, stamping & fabric went into this one.  I will put more details on my blog when I post this.

Dont forget to come & see us at The Craft Barn on 6th November!  Di & I would love to see you!  Thank you for looking, HUGS XXX

A gate to my flower garden

My new lo was just perfect for Tando gorgeous gate and fence chipboards.
My twin girls  were 21 on this photo, travelling in South America for a year  after 2 years of army service  and theywere just like a flower garden:bright, pretty, blooming and exiting.
Tando chipboards  were painted with Ranger white fence (even the name fits) crackle paint and then sprinkled with some stardust  fine glitter.
I just love!! this chipboards- can use them on every girly page of mine!!

Snowflakes!

I thought the pretty little snowflakes from the Christmas minis would make great hanging ornaments. I plan to find a nice bare twig come Christmas time and hang these in my hallway!

I decorated both sides - they each have a clear dew drop in the centre and tiny pale blue gems on one side, clear gems on the other.

These are really easy to do and use minimal supplies (gesso, gems, Glossy Accents as adhesive, silver thread for hanging). Each flake is approximately 30mm across.

Here's a closer view of one - sweet and simple!

Thanks for stopping by for a peep!

steampunk canvas

The current trend seems to be for that Steampunk feel to altered art and mixed media pieces and with the gorgeous cogs available I decided to try my hand at a steampunk inspired canvas....

the base was a canvas which was painted with acryllics and then using a Tim Holtz mask was hi-lighted using inka gold.  The cogs were painted with crocco paint by viva decor....metal embellishments and an image from graphics 45 were added to finish off the piece...

Welcome....

to my post in which I'm showing you my welcome sign.....the whole piece was painted with acryllic paint and then stamped over and painted again with hi-lights added with black/white pen, distress inks or distress paint in rock candy.... a piece of string was added for that "rustic" look!
